The sun is out, school is almost out and the days are getting longer. This means more time to get things done but also more hours to fill with the little ones (anyone else investing in blackout curtains?). Get out the house and keep the kids busy at festivals, fireworks and splash parks. Here are our top picks for what to do with your kids in the month of June.
Sunday, June 3
Michigan Transit Museum
All aboard! The train is rolling out of the station for the first time this year, and little train lovers will enjoy the 35-minute rail trip.
Saturday, June 9
Berkley Department of Public Safety
Lids 4 Kids was founded by the Public Safety Department in 2001 by officer William R. Alford to promote bike safety. Kids get free helmets and have fun with the dunk tank and moon bounces at the police station open house. Keep an eye in the sky for the Oakland County Sheriff’s Helicopter.
Saturday, June 10
Rochester Municipal Park
Plan a day of family fun with an added bonus of health and wellness for National Children’s Day! Enjoy the signature Fun Run to a free expo dedicated to hands-on activity clinics that promote physical movement, music and health.
Wednesday, June 13
Detroit Symphony Orchestra
Harry Potter fans will want to experience the magic of the movies through the music as Orchestra Hall fills with the sounds of Hogwarts and the wizarding world. Don’t miss a chance to take a selfie at the Detroit Hogwarts – Wayne State’s University’s Old Main.
Tuesday, June 19 – Wednesday, June 20
Royal Oak Farmers Market
Spend the day with your PBS friends! Sing and dance with everyone’s favorite dinosaur and visit with Super Why, Daniel Tiger, Clifford and Nature Cat. Enjoy arts, crafts, the musical zoo and more!
Friday, June 22 – Sunday, June 24
Get ready for a weekend of fun all around you with events and entertainment on land, water and sky! From sail away excursions, to zip line and carnival rides, and a Tuskegee Airman show — there’s something for everyone on the riverfront.
Thursday, June 21
Marshbank Park, West Bloomfield
Pack a blanket and gather the children for Marshbank Park’s free children’s concert with the Children’s Theatre of Michigan. The first 250 kids will get a chance to make their own instrument at the “Make & Take” station.

The Ford Estate is being transformed into Sherwood Forest! Get ready for the Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men and experience classic tale with performances, music, games, storytelling, puppet shows, activities and more!
