Renee Heigel of Birmingham is a dedicated life and nutritional coach, accomplished motivational speaker and knows firsthand the struggles today’s women face when it comes to attaining healthy body image and overall wellness.
“My personal healthy lifestyle came about like a flower growing out of a rock at the top of a mountain,” Heigel says. “It was the least likely place you would see life and yet it found a way to bloom. I was super unhealthy, addicted to many things including sugar, fast food, soda, work and cigarettes.”
Heigel was reaching for whatever she could find to help her. The turning point came when she stumbled upon a “cleanse” opportunity that changed her health and life.
Combining her knowledge, functional nutrition and passion for clean “naked” foods, her company Love Yourself Naked was born.
Renee Heigel is devoted to serving others in the quest to experience “radical acceptance” and healthy well- being of mind, body and spirit.
“Nothing is off the table,” Heigel says. “We deal with your love life, your career or business and how you’re treating yourself. Life can be a wild ride but we can learn to love it and not waste a single moment.”
How do people feel about nutrition today? We face enormous issues in the nutritional industry today. Many of us are eating processed foods and junk that makes us sick and then we put a bandage on the problem with our excessive use of pharmaceuticals to try to get well.
The nutritional answer is to learn to look to whole foods to keep a healthy immune system. We first need to commit to reading labels and evaluating the ingredients of the food we’re eating.
What’s your proudest career accomplishment? In this moment, it would have to be the community that I have around me. As my practice has grown, I get to work with people from all over the world via Skype and phone and then locally here in Metro Detroit. Seeing all of these individuals transforming their lives and bodies with changes in food and thinking is so inspiring and a reminder for me to keep teaching, evolving personally and practicing what I preach.
What do you have a passion for? I have a huge passion for changing our food system to support health, vitality and sustainability. We have some major problems as a culture with food because we’ve created a system of convenience that lacks quality, and I don’t want to see people suffer and stay sick because of this flawed system.
Tell us about your family. I was born and raised in Michigan and I love this state. I live with my partner, Rob; and we have a relationship rooted in openness, passion and friendship. My son, Manny, is 5, and he is my greatest inspiration. Our home is filled with dance parties, creativity, good food, laughter and being present for one another, so I’m a lucky woman.
What do you like about living in Birmingham? I love living in a community where I can walk to most places like the farmer’s market and to anywhere else I need. It’s the most beautiful place all year-round, and I feel very grateful for the sense of community and great people here.
Tell us something that most people don’t know about you. I started my first business when I was 21, and I have collected rocks from all the places I’ve visited. I have hundreds!
How would you like to change the world? I want to be a mentor and an example of how to live, love and eat. I desire to help change our food system to support quality, health and energy versus quantity, big-money corporations and convenience. NS
