Letter From New SEEN Editor Stephanie Steinberg

Published December 27, 2017 by

Meet our new Managing Editor Stephanie Steinberg and hear some of her future plans for SEEN Magazine!

Hello Neighborhood SEEN readers!

I’m thrilled to join Neighborhood SEEN as its new managing editor! Growing up in Farmington Hills, I couldn’t wait to receive my copies of Seventeen or Teen Vogue each month, and I often fantasized about working for a lifestyle magazine. I believed if I worked hard enough, perhaps, one day, I would get a chance to lead a publication.

Over a decade later, I have an opportunity to fulfill a career dream, and I couldn’t be more excited to do so in my hometown of Metro Detroit. This region is booming with lifestyle news —
from artists seeking out Detroit for tour stops to the barrage of new restaurants and retail shops. It seems like every day, local residents are following their own dreams and starting something new.
As a features reporter at The Detroit News the last two years, I covered Metro Detroiters who have launched everything from fashion lines and chocolate shops to galleries, fitness programs, and pet shops. They’re driven, passionate and care deeply about uplifting their community. They’re also why I moved back home after working at U.S. News & World Report in Washington D.C. for several years. There were so many good stories in Metro Detroit and downtown Detroit — where I now live — and I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to tell them.

I plan to continue sharing these compelling lifestyle stories with SEEN readers. I’m also excited to lead a team that is developing innovative ways to incorporate technology into print. We will be using our new Layar app to present stories, photos, videos, and links to
shop the look you see on the SEEN pages. The cutting-edge app, free for iPhone and Android, brings stories to life in a way Metro Detroiters have yet to experience. I encourage you to download the app and try it while perusing the magazine. Just scan a page with your phone, and content related to the story you’re reading will pop up on your screen. (To learn more, check out Kevin’s tutorial here.)

We also will be ramping up our coverage on social media, so if you don’t already, please follow us on Facebook at @NeighborhoodSeen, Instagram at @SeenMagazine and Twitter at @NeighborSeen. And don’t forget to check neighborhoodseen.com for additional stories, photos, videos and links to buy the local apparel and products you see in the magazine! If you’re not yet a subscriber, we’d love for you to join the SEEN community

We at SEEN strive to cover the latest lifestyle news and people who are bettering the Metro Detroit community. If you have story ideas or think SEEN is missing something in our coverage, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can drop me a line anytime at ssteinberg@neighborhoodseen.com.

I’m honored to join the SEEN community, and I hope to see you around the neighborhood!

I’m looking forward to seeing what you and your team do, Stephanie — the same way I looked forward to what you’d bring to light every day or two at the Detroit News. Congratulations to you, and to Neighborhood SEEN’s readers.
