Look your best on the beach with these tips.

By Lisa Rose Hook

Whether you’re lounging poolside, sunbathing at the beach or yachting at the club, a fabulous fitting swimsuit is an absolute essential this and every summer. For most women, the search can be arduous, if not agonizing.

We recently went shopping for you to spot some of the season’s trends. Enjoy!

Trend Spotting

If you’re a fashionista, swimwear is an extension of your wardrobe. This season’s styles include geometric shapes and laser cuts found at The Buckle at the Village of Rochester Hills.

Tribal prints are hot in high-waisted bikini or tankini styles — finish your look with one of their flowing, fringed kimono cover-ups, paired with beaded fashion flips and Oakley shades. (Follow them on Instagram at
@Bucklerochesterhills367).

We love the accessories at Wanderlust in downtown Rochester, which range from playful floral headbands and cute cat-eye shades to fancy flip flops. A look that’s chic yet simple includes a plum cotton cover-up with a floral headband and cat-eye sunglasses. Finish with a nude wedge sandal. (Follow Wanderlust on Instagram at
@Wanderlustboutique1021).

If you’re more earthy, check out the Moosejaw at the Village of Rochester Hills where Birds of Paradise prints are popular in bikinis by Roxy. Moosejaw also carries Lole, which is showcasing blues, pinks and oranges for the season.

The sandal of choice this season has been the Yoga sling, which is available in a variety of hues.

For the more mainstream yet classic swim, shop Victoria’s Secret for saucy one-piece swimwear in basic black with cutouts and tankinis with tribal prints that are flattering even if you aren’t runway ready.

Dive In

If you dread trying on bathing suits because your figure is fuller, Custom Swimwear by Exelnt (www.
customswimwear.com) is your life preserver. They custom design their suits to order, by appointment. Your perfect fit is based on your bra and pant size, tailor-made to flatter your individual body type. From waif to plus size, your suit will be customized and as individual as you are.

Owner Trish Crowder not only understands your pain if your figure at 40 isn’t what it was at 25; her mission is to help women feel comfortable in their own “second” skin.

Exelnt Designs of Warren has been making custom bathing suits for 35 years on site — with the unique premise that everyone is different and one size really doesn’t fit all.

Swimwear trends Trish sees include longer, looser tankinis, colorful animal prints and bright, neons reminiscent of the ’80s. She also cites camouflage on solid colors as sizzling summer styles.

If you’re a new mom, check out their matching baby suits — too cute — and an accompanying blog at www.customswimwear.com.

Made in the Shade

While you don’t have to spend a fortune on your swimwear, it should make you feel like a million. Take your time and plan to make a day of it. Be patient with yourself and don’t try to emulate a picture-perfect model or celebrity — just focus on feeling comfortable and confident. If the suit fits — you’ll feel and look your best.

No matter the price, it’s an investment in your summer and yourself. NS

Teen SEEN

The “it” suit for beach-bound babes — Triangl is a summer essential. For those of us who remember Body Glove, these little numbers take neon to a whole new level. In flavorful colors like Aqua Punch, Sugar Plum, Peach Soda, Blueberry Burst and Bubble Mint, they are positively yummy.

Catching the fancy of super-celebs Kendall Jenner and Miley Cyrus, Triangl swimwear is one of  the hottest bikinis in the world at the moment. (@triangl_swimwear on Instagram)

Triangl Swimwear is only available online at www.triangl.com.

PINK, at the Village of Rochester Hills and Somerset Collection in Troy, is a destination for teens and 20-somethings searching for on-point poolside attire. The store is brimming with animal prints, tribal vibes, cutouts, tie dye, layers, solids with piping, Aztec and Hawaiian print bikinis.

PINK also has bright, soft beach towels and colorful beach totes, perfect for summer 2015.

Trendy Trunks for Him

Men don’t have to settle for ho-hum swim trunks anymore. The Buckle has a great selection of Hurley (made by Nike). The most popular style is the Hybrid, with four-way phantom technology, perfect for water sports.

“You can wear the hybrid as shorts or swimwear,” says Ken Lalone at the Village of Rochester Hills store.

The Buckle also carries O’Neill and Billabong, as well as the BKE Buckle brand.

“Hybrids are a dry fit — you can literally get out of the pool and go to dinner,” Lalone says. The selection of men’s swimwear at The Buckle is perfect for the hip young dad this Father’s Day — combine with a pair of Kustok Reef sandals.

Moosejaw has more conservative, yet still trendy swimwear for men, including earthy tones from Patagonia and Billabong.

Their collection of sandals includes North Face, Sanuk, Chaco, free water and Teva. Hot right now are sandals by Keen, made of paracord for under $100.

Elegance From Ship To Shore

SHE offers summer swim wardrobe essentials
By Lisa Rose Hook

Luxury lifestyle boutique owner Sharon Eisenshtadt believes swimwear doesn’t end with the perfect swimsuit — it’s the focal point from which to build upon with chic sandals, flowy cover-ups and fabulous bags. Thus the creation of SHE’s exclusive 800-square-foot pop-up swimwear boutique, offering a complete vacation or summer wardrobe — for head-to-toe style, be it by a cabana or at the neighborhood club.

Eisenshtadt’s innate style sense is inbred from years of expertise in the retail industry, and her philosophy is simple — to provide exceptional highly personalized attention. Whether size 0 or 12, clients will discover a truly unique way to shop for swimwear at SHE in Bloomfield Hills.

“You should have a daytime wardrobe that includes the perfect bag, swimsuit, shoes — and a few options of each,” says Eisenshtadt, who stocks exclusive lines like Letarte, VIX and Melissa Odabash.

Her advice: “Stick with mix-and-match options so that you can switch up sizes where needed.

“We carry designers that offer every style — from bikinis to one-piece options — and a one-piece doesn’t have to scream ‘matronly.’ People are healthier now and living longer and work hard to keep in shape,” she adds. “There are many sexy, appropriate one-piece and two-piece styles available for any age. We also stick with designers that offer cover-ups. We feel very strongly about styling a complete look for our clients.”

Eisenshtadt believes the search for a swimsuit requires diligence.

“The best way to figure out the perfect you suit is to try, try, try until you find the one that makes you feel amazing,” she advises.

The trends this season include high-waist bottoms that are Mad Men-inspired, halter tops, wrap-around top styles and one-piece suits with cut outs, says Eisenshtadt. She notes that “chain details, fun whimsical patterns, knits in metallics, athletic but in a fashionable way swimwear, florals, white cover-ups and knits for cover- ups have been popular.

“VIX and Letarte are the exclusive lines we love because of all the body options in bikini and one-piece suiting,” she adds. “We are not a fan of the ‘skirt’ over suit and would rather offer the cool wrap or cover-up.”

Gone are the days of cover-ups just for the pool. Cover-ups can also be worn from pool to lunch to a night out on the town, she adds.

“We also love Melissa Odabash. We carry a huge selection of beautiful cover-ups that fit every body type.”

SHE also carries JADEtribe, an essential and versatile cloth bag that takes you from the pool and beach to a night on the town. “JADEtribe is our absolute favorite bag line, and there are so many styles to pick from to meet any pool, beach or handbag need,” Eisenshtadt says.

From flirty, floppy straw hats to beautiful beaded sandals and casual flip flops and a new fabulous shoe line just offered this year, the swim shop at SHE has everything to create a unique and personal look that’s right for each individual.

Eisenshtadt says the best advice she can give about swimwear is this: “Wear what makes you feel good about yourself.”
