Cranbrook Schools teamed up with Saks Fifth Avenue on May 23 at the fashion show of a lifetime for many young kids in elementary and middle school.

All the students who modeled in the event at Saks at the Somerset Collection in Troy attend Cranbrook Schools and walked the runway in front of parents and administrators. Each child wrote a synopsis of their interests and goals that was announced while they walked the runway. Some included having a goat farm with 300 goats. Others aspired to be a paleontologist. One girl, when asked who inspired her, said her big sister in college, who was there in attendance.

Two high school students, Claire Norwick and Gracey Bennett-Carpenter, in Cranbrook’s honors weaving course walked the runway. They were honored guests, and recognized for their art, with their clothing pieces they created on display in Saks’ designer department.

Norwick, a senior at Cranbrook, says her teacher told her that organizers wanted her work to be featured in the show. “The fashion show was lots of fun, but I was really excited about my dresses being on display,” Norwick says.

Norwick had two dresses on display and chose a colorful outfit to strut the runway. She wore Alexander Mcqueen pants and was joined by children wearing Balmain, Chloé and many Gucci outfits. One young girl in elementary school strutted the entire runway in heels, walking perfectly, we might add.

The youngest girl, wearing a Dolce & Gabbana dress, walked with Miss Michigan 2017 Heather Kendrick.

The fashion show included food, live violinists and raffles. Funds raised supported Cranbrook Schools.
