With summer in full swing and the temperatures rising outside, it can be tricky to put together a stylish outfit for work. You want to beat the summer heat but also keep warm while the overzealous office AC is on blast — and still look good handling your business. The struggle can be too real! If you’re feeling overwhelmed trying to put together a chic summer outfit for work, then these three looks are for you!
For a Business Professional Office
Working in a business professional environment doesn’t mean that there’s no room for personality. While bold colors may not be an option, an easy alternative is to play around with prints in conservative colors. Summer is the perfect time to swap out your boring button-ups for gingham blouses, polka dot tops or even something a little more playful. By keeping the patterns in black and white, you can easily interject your personal style into a suit, pair of slacks or skirt while being appropriate for the office. If you want to take your look up another notch, an easy swap is to trade your plain pencil skirt for a midi skirt with fun details. Think a faux wrap, paper bag waist, pleats or ruffles. If you feel the combo of a patterned top and ruffled skirt is too much, you can tone it down with a classic blazer to make your look board room appropriate.
For a Business Casual Office
Offices that embrace the casual side of business casual can feel especially overwhelming because you have far more options to wear to work. Most people split the difference by wearing a blazer over their tee and jeans. To bring this classic look into summer, start by reaching for a crisp white pair of jeans. Even more kudos if you reach for a trendier crop flare style! White denim is an easy way to freshen up your classic uniform for summer. Add some personal flair by taking a trendier piece from the previous season into the current one like I did with this plaid blazer. The subtle hint of yellow in the design makes it perfect for every season! Lastly, be sure to swap out your darker shoes for a lighter pair. If you didn’t hop on the white boots train from winter, try finding a tan pair that will seamlessly blend with almost anything in your closet. Or, if you’re really bold, you can give the cowboy boot trend a go!
For a Creative Office
The best thing about a creative office is your only limit is to not show too much skin. But again, having more choices can make it that much harder to decide what to wear. Embrace the freedom and really use it as an opportunity to showcase your personal style shamelessly! For me, that’s a chic summer suit in fun stripes paired with a crop top, which makes a chic uncomplicated look that is both professional and fun. Don’t shy away from accessories here — opt for trendy statement earrings or layering necklaces. Also step your shoe game up with an unexpected texture, pattern or color. The sky’s really the limit here, so have fun with your look and don’t take yourself too seriously!
The thing to remember is you want to find pieces that make you feel incredible, then worry about how you can wear them to your 9-5. Finding classics that you like with a fun twist is the easiest way to breathe new life into your work wear for summer. Also adding pops of color and pattern is a safe, yet bold option when you’re trying new things.
